The commonly used rust-proof process is hot-rolled steel plate + hot/cold galvanizing + spraying. After qualified galvanizing and spraying processing, the theoretical lifespan of the lamp post is 15-20 years. This means that within a minimum of 15 years, the surface coating of the streetlight will not fade or rust. However, theory is theory; can this effect be achieved in actual use?
After undergoing cold/hot galvanizing treatment, the solar streetlight pole will almost not rust (except in cases where there are sand holes during welding). Therefore, the factor that affects the aesthetics of the streetlight is the outer paint. After galvanizing, the solar streetlight pole undergoes a corrosion-resistant coating process—spraying. The powder used in spraying is outdoor powder, which has high hardness and strong adhesion. Although the aesthetic and corrosion resistance of the lamp post is further enhanced after spraying, actual usage shows that the lifespan of the powder cannot reach 10 years, let alone 15-20 years. For good quality outdoor glossy powder, the surface of the lamp post appears bright and smooth after spraying.
However, after three years of outdoor use, the surface gloss of the solar streetlight pole will gradually fade and then begin to discolor and lose paint. High-quality powder may last longer, but poor-quality powder can show significant changes within a year. The downside of outdoor powder is its poor aging resistance.
There is a way to extend the lifespan of the streetlight’s surface coating, allowing it to maintain its original color without discoloration or chalking for a long time. If galvanizing is for rust resistance, spraying is for aesthetics. With rust resistance achieved and aesthetics enhanced, an additional protective layer can significantly help. The weather resistance of outdoor powder is very poor, but it can be encapsulated with a good weather-resistant outer coating, which is not hard to find—it is fluorocarbon paint. Fluorocarbon paint features excellent corrosion resistance, no maintenance, strong adhesion, and ultra-long weather resistance. Applying fluorocarbon paint to the outer layer of the solar streetlight pole’s powder can provide excellent protection, maintaining the gloss of its surface for over ten years.
The lifespan of solar streetlight poles is typically long-term. Using the right manufacturing process will yield lifelong benefits.
