Today, I would like to explain the issue regarding LED solar street lights that do not light up when it gets dark. Many customers may have doubts about this problem. I will clarify this issue today.
If you have already installed LED solar street lights and have been using them for a while, but they are not lighting up, the first step is to check the response of the controller’s indicator lights. If neither of the two lights is on, the controller may be damaged. This issue can occur due to a strong current surge, such as a direct lightning strike or a short circuit.
If you find at night that the LED solar street light control indicator shows normal discharge and the battery also has sufficient voltage, but the street light does not illuminate, we recommend directly connecting the positive and negative terminals of the solar street light to the corresponding terminals of the battery for testing. If this test indicates no discharge, it is highly likely that the driver or rectifier of the light is damaged. It is advisable to further test with a professional multimeter.
If the solar street light controller shows a low voltage status and does not light up after dark, but the battery voltage exceeds the undervoltage value, showing that the battery has power: in a 24V system, the undervoltage protection value is around 22.2V (controller default value). Once the battery voltage drops to this level, the controller will cut off power and stop discharging to protect the battery from excessive discharge, which could impact the continued use of the device.
The solar street light’s solar panel will charge the battery during the day, and it will only continue to discharge when the charging voltage reaches 24V (controller default value). This setting is mainly to prevent the battery from being damaged due to prolonged deep discharge. In cases of battery undervoltage, if the solar street light controller is not restarted, any voltage between 22.2V and 24V is considered undervoltage. The discharge will only resume when the battery voltage rises above 24V.
