Solar Street Lights
are powered by crystalline silicon solar cells, utilizing maintenance-free valve-regulated sealed batteries (gel batteries) to store electrical energy. They employ ultra-bright LED lights as the light source and are controlled by smart charging and discharging controllers, serving as an alternative to traditional public power lighting. They require no cabling, no AC power supply, and incur no electricity costs. These lights operate on direct current power, with light-sensitive controls. They offer advantages such as good stability, long lifespan, high luminous efficiency, easy installation and maintenance, high safety performance, energy saving, environmental friendliness, and economic practicality. So how should solar street lights be maintained during regular use?
1. Precautions for Using the Controller:
(1) Wiring diagram for the controller:
The wiring sequence is as follows: connect the load first, then connect the battery, and connect the solar panel last. After connecting the battery, the controller’s idle indicator will illuminate, and a minute later, the discharge indicator will light up, turning on the load. Once the solar panel is connected, the controller will enter the appropriate working condition based on light intensity. If the solar panel generates charging current, the controller’s charging indicator will light up, entering charging mode. Do not change the wiring of the controller; check the status indicators to see the corresponding working status.
2. Precautions for Using the Solar Panel:
(1) Never allow hard or sharp objects to strike the solar panel; otherwise, it may get damaged.
(2) Regularly clean the solar panel (ideally every six months) to ensure maximum efficiency.
(3) Ensure nothing obstructs the solar panel’s surface (such as branches or billboards) during use, as obstructions can affect efficiency.
(4) The solar panel must be tilted at a 30-degree angle facing due south during installation.
3. Precautions for Using the Battery:
(1) The underground box must be sealed to ensure waterproofing; replace it promptly if damaged or broken.
(2) Never short-circuit the positive and negative terminals of the battery, as this may damage it.
(3) The typical lifespan of a battery is two to three years; it should be replaced promptly after this period.
4. Precautions for Using LED Lights:
(1) It is prohibited to throw stones or other objects at the light fixtures.
(2) Change the light control settings strictly according to the instructions.
(3) Adjust the light angle or level promptly if there is any deviation.
5. Common Issues with Solar Street Lights and Troubleshooting:
(1) If the lights do not turn on after dark but have been installed and functioning normally for a time, first check the indicator lights on the controller. If both indicators are not lit, the controller may be damaged, possibly due to strong current impacts, such as direct lightning strikes or short circuits. If the controller indicators show normal discharge at night and the battery has sufficient voltage but the lights do not turn on, connect the light’s positive and negative terminals directly to the battery’s positive and negative terminals for testing. If it cannot discharge, the light driver or rectifier may be damaged.
(2) If the controller indicates a low voltage state and the lights do not turn on after dark while the battery voltage exceeds the undervoltage threshold, showing the battery has power, in a 24V system, the undervoltage protection value is around 22.2V. Once the battery voltage drops to this point, the controller disconnects the power to prevent over-discharge. During the day, the solar panel charges the battery up to 24V before it can continue to discharge, to avoid long-term deep discharge damaging the battery. After encountering undervoltage, without restarting the controller, the voltage range of 22.2V to 24V remains in the undervoltage state. Only when the battery voltage is recharged above 24V will it continue to discharge.
