Winter construction of concrete projects should be organized with a winter construction plan and preparations. Preventive measures against snow and frost should be taken for materials and facilities in advance. During winter construction, concrete made with Portland cement or ordinary Portland cement must not freeze when its compressive strength reaches 40% of the design strength and is not lower than 5 MPa. During winter construction, safety measures against fire, frost, and gas poisoning should be implemented.
When pouring concrete, additives such as air-entraining agents and water-reducing agents should be used to enhance the frost resistance of concrete. The temperature of all materials used for mixing concrete should meet the requirements of the concrete mix after merging. During winter mixing, aggregates must not contain ice, snow, or frozen clumps, and the mixing ratio and slump of the concrete must be strictly controlled. Before adding materials, the mixer should be washed with hot water, and the order of adding materials is: first mix aggregates and water, then add cement. The mixing time should be extended by 50% compared to normal temperatures. The discharge temperature of the concrete mixture should not be lower than 10°C, and the temperature when entering the mold must not be lower than 5°C.
Technical requirements for concrete transportation and pouring: The transportation time of concrete should be minimized, and the containers for transporting concrete should have insulation measures. Before pouring concrete, ensure that templates and rebar are free from ice, snow, or dirt, and prepare the temperature for curing. Using the heat-retaining method, it should not be lower than 10°C; using steam method, it should not be lower than 50°C; for thin structures, it must not be lower than 8°C.
