Automated Lifting
High pole lights typically use high-pressure sodium lamps or metal halide lamps as the main light source. There are two reasons for choosing this type of lamp. Firstly, high-pressure sodium and metal halide lamps are characterized by high brightness and wide viewing angles. Secondly, there is a profit issue for merchants, as many high-pressure sodium lamps sold in the market are counterfeit brands that can yield considerable profits by misleading consumers.
In terms of illumination brightness and coverage area, LED lights can fully meet the lighting requirements of high pole lights. The main reason for their limited application on high pole lights is the price.
A complete set of 400W high-pressure sodium lamps costs around 500 yuan, while a decent 45W LED lamp generally costs no less than 200 yuan. Under this comparison, many people subconsciously choose high-pressure sodium lamps. Due to a lack of understanding about LED lights, many do not make an in-depth comparison. The illumination brightness of two qualified 45W LED lamps is certainly comparable to that of a 400W sodium lamp. Below, we will conduct a systematic comparison between the two types of lamps.
Firstly, a sodium lamp consists of four parts: the light source, the ballast, the capacitor, and the igniter. This means that any failure in any part will lead to the lamp not working properly. Even if the components do not fail, the light source’s lifespan does not exceed 10,000 hours.
In contrast, LED lights are different as they comprise only two parts: the lamp beads and the power supply, leading to a lower probability of component failure. It is well known that the theoretical lifespan of LED light sources is 50,000 hours, and even if it does not reach that, the lifespan would not differ much, making LED lights last longer than sodium lamps.
Then there is the power consumption issue. The brightness of two 45W LED lamps is nearly on par with that of a 400W high-pressure sodium lamp, yet the power consumption is 4 times less. We often see high pole lights shining for over 10 hours at a time in public squares, making LEDs more economical in the long run.
In fact, LEDs are not as expensive as people might think. When considered over the long term, they are cheaper than other types of lamps due to their long lifespan and low power consumption – making them a sound long-term investment. Therefore, it is recommended to use LED lights for high pole lights since many counterfeit sodium and metal halide lamps often have issues. The lifting of high pole lights can be cumbersome, and frequent failures can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. It is essential to make a careful choice when purchasing.
