1. Combination of external and internal lightning protection

Currently, the external part of a typical solar courtyard light is made of conductive materials, equivalent to a lightning rod. In the design, a down conductor and grounding network must be installed. These systems constitute an external lightning protection system that can prevent fires and personal safety incidents caused by direct lightning strikes to solar courtyard lights. The internal lightning protection system protects the equipment inside the solar courtyard lights through grounding and voltage protection. This system can prevent lightning induction and other forms of overvoltage from entering, which could damage the power supply; however, the external lightning protection system cannot guarantee this. They complement each other. The internal lightning protection system must be connected to the external lightning protection system or overvoltage protectors on many devices, such as the chassis, cables, and metal pipes entering and exiting the protection zone, and establish an equipotential connection.

At the same time, the enormous pulse energy generated by lightning in the circuit is released to the ground via a short route, reducing the potential difference at each interface of the equipment, thus protecting the equipment.

3. Establishing a lightning protection zone

In addition to power supply equipment, solar courtyard lights will also be equipped with communication devices to control the operation and brightness of the lights. These devices and the power supply need to be placed in a lightning protection zone that is directly shielded by the casing. The electromagnetic field here is much weaker.

4. Lightning protection equipotential connection

Completely eliminate the destructive potential differences caused by lightning in solar street lights. Power lines, signal lines, metal pipes, etc., must be connected to overvoltage protectors and also require local equipotential connections at the interfaces of each internal protection area.
