
Solar streetlight controller
is used to coordinate the operation of solar panels, batteries, and loads within the entire solar lighting system. It is one of the critical components in solar streetlight equipment, providing assurance for the entire lighting system.
The solar streetlight controller should have the following basic functions: to efficiently charge the battery, automatically turn on and off the streetlight or load, and include overload protection, short-circuit protection, reverse discharge protection, polarity reversal protection, lightning protection, under-voltage protection, overcharging protection, and load recovery settings.
The solar controller should also pay attention to:
1. The controller’s power consumption should be low, as it operates continuously for 24 hours. If its own power consumption is too high, it will consume part of the energy. A good controller’s consumption should be below 3 milliamps.
2. The controller should have high charging efficiency, featuring strong charging, equalization charging, and floating charging control modes. Controllers use intelligent MCU control, ensuring that power is continuously supplied to charge the battery, especially in winter or during insufficient sunlight periods. Controllers using MCU intelligent control have about 20% higher efficiency than those without it.
3. The controller should have high precision control. High precision reflects the overall design quality, material selection, and production processes. Controllers without high precision often have high repair rates and low reliability due to poor design and material selection.
4. The controller can have two independent control channels, which facilitates power adjustment for the entire streetlight. During periods of low pedestrian traffic at night, one or both channels can be automatically turned off to save electricity. It should also allow power adjustment for LED light sources. Besides having the above power-saving functions, when setting the under-voltage protection value, it should ideally be set at ≥ 10.8V to prevent battery over-discharge.
