led solar street lights are being installed more and more. Nowadays, they can be seen everywhere, thanks to the inherent advantages of solar street lights: they are green and environmentally friendly, enhance the landscape, and are easy to install and maintain. A reminder for everyone, when installing led solar street lights, we still need to pay attention to some details to avoid common installation mistakes.
1. When installing led solar street lights, avoid placing them in locations with excessive obstructions that can reduce the solar panel’s charging efficiency.
For example, obstructions such as leaves or buildings can block light and affect the absorption and utilization of light energy. If solar panels are installed under wires, branches, lamp poles, or other obstructions, they will leave a shadow on the solar panel during the day. Because the solar panel’s cells are usually in series, if one section of the cells is shadowed, it can create a situation similar to a circuit break, and if the solar panel consists of multiple strings in parallel, it will not generate electricity.
2. Avoid charging solar panels indoors while installing. Some customers may install solar lights in parking shelters for convenience at night, but if the solar panels are also placed inside the shelter, the charging effectiveness will naturally decrease. In this situation, we can adopt an installation method that separates the solar panel outside for charging and the light indoors for discharging.
3. Be careful to avoid ambient light sources next to the solar panel, which can cause the voltage of the solar panel to be above the light control voltage point, preventing it from illuminating. For example, if another street light is located near the solar street light, when night falls and the adjacent light turns on, the solar panel may mistakenly detect this light source as daylight, causing the controller to prevent illumination.
4. Do not install lights on both sides with solar panels facing each other at an angle. Installation personnel may symmetrically install the solar panels with a slant for aesthetic reasons, but if one side is oriented correctly, the other side will inevitably be incorrect. The incorrect side will not be able to receive direct sunlight, resulting in reduced charging efficiency.
5. Adjusting the angle of the solar panel during installation incorrectly can lead to low charging efficiency. The correct angle adjustment for solar panels should follow a simple principle: allow direct sunlight to hit the solar panel for maximum efficiency. Depending on the location, the tilt angle of the solar panel can refer to the local latitude; the tilt should match the latitude to optimize performance. Therefore, adjustability in angle is crucial for solar panels across different latitudes and surfaces.
6. Do not arbitrarily extend the connection wire of the solar panel. In some locations, installation may require placing the solar panel far from the lamp due to interference, which could result in distances of more than ten meters. Customers might connect them using ordinary wires purchased from the market. As typical wiring quality is often poor and long distances contribute to significant line loss, charging efficiency may drastically decrease, affecting illumination duration.
7. Incorrect usage of the remote control on-site can lead to parameter setting errors causing the lights not to illuminate. Based on multiple on-site investigations, some construction personnel reported they were unaware of the remote’s function and pressed buttons haphazardly, resulting in undesired light conditions. This could result in incorrect parameter settings, leading to lighting irregularities.
