Regular municipal LED street lamps often exhibit two types of faults after prolonged use: one is high-resistance faults, and the other is low-resistance faults. High-resistance faults occur when the cable is burnt and the resistance measured is relatively high, while low-resistance faults occur when there is a short circuit in the wiring or a complete short to ground, resulting in increased current and tripping of the power supply.
Bitpott
manufacturer of street lamps
reminds that these two types of faults and their frequent occurrence pose a threat to the normal operation of
LED street lamps
. Therefore, it is essential to pay adequate attention and identify the causes and solutions.
1. Poor construction quality
Faults caused by poor construction quality account for a significant proportion. The main issues are: 1) the depth of the cable trench is insufficient, and the sand covering the bricks is not constructed according to standards; 2) the construction and installation of conduit do not meet requirements, with no flared ends as per standards; 3) during cable laying, the cable is dragged along the ground; 4) the embedded pipes in the foundation do not comply with standards, particularly when the pipes are too thin and curved, making it quite difficult to pull cables through, resulting in “dead bends” at the bottom of the foundation.
2. Inadequate quality of supporting projects
Municipal LED street lamps
cables are generally laid on sidewalks. Poor construction quality of the sidewalks can cause ground subsidence, resulting in deformation of the cables due to stress, which leads to cable armoring. Particularly in the Northeast region, which is located in a cold climate, the arrival of winter causes the cables and soil to form a cohesive mass. Once subsidence occurs on the surface, it can strain the foundation of the LED street lamps, and during the rainy season in summer, it may cause the roots to burn out.
3. Unreasonable design
On one hand, there is an overload in operation. With the continuous development of urban construction, LED street lamps are also extending. Newly built LED street lamps are often connected to the nearest municipal power circuit. Additionally, the rapid development of the advertising industry in recent years has resulted in advertising loads being placed on LED street lamps, leading to excessive loads, overheating of cables, reduced insulation, and grounding short circuits. On the other hand, the design of lamp posts only considers the situation of the lamp post itself, neglecting the space for cable heads. After wrapping the cable heads, in most cases, the doors cannot be closed; sometimes the cable length is insufficient, and the joints are not made according to requirements, which are also factors causing faults.
