Today, solar LED street lights can be seen everywhere, as solar LED street lights are widely utilized. However, some solar LED street light manufacturers’ products still have areas that need proper improvement and handling. This has led to instances where some solar LED street lights do not illuminate after a period of use. Let us discuss the reasons behind solar LED street lights not shining.
1. First, check the response of the indicator lights on the solar LED street light controller. If both indicator lights of the solar street light are off, the controller may have been damaged. It could also be due to strong current surges affecting the lighting system or situations like direct lightning strikes or short circuits.
2. If at night the controller indicator lights show normal discharge and the battery has sufficient voltage, but the solar street light fixtures are not illuminating, connect the positive and negative terminals of the light directly to the positive and negative terminals of the battery for testing. If there is no discharge, the light driver or rectifier may be damaged.
3. If the solar LED street light controller shows an undervoltage state and does not light up after dark, but the battery voltage exceeds the undervoltage value, indicating the battery is charged. In a 24V system, the undervoltage protection value is around 22.2V. Once the battery drops to this voltage point, the controller cuts off the power and stops discharging, mainly to protect the battery from over-discharge.
The solar panels charge the batteries of the solar street lights during the day, and only when the voltage reaches 24V (the default value of the controller) will it continue to discharge. This aims to avoid deep discharge of the battery over time, leading to damage. If the battery is in an undervoltage state and the controller is not restarted, values between 22.2V and 24V are considered undervoltage, and it will only continue to discharge once the battery voltage is charged above 24V.
